My name is Dr. Rai King and I’m a leadership and learning professional working as a senior education professional in Brooklyn, New York, and an adjunct lecturer at Rutgers University.
I’m a proud graduate of the original home of Black girl magic, Spelman College. I earned my doctorate in Leadership and Learning from Vanderbilt University where I studied the work lives of Black women senior executives and explored topics including how organizations can support these women’s thriving! I’m a wife to a lifelong leader and activist, and a mother to 5 children, 3 dogs, and 8 chickens.

This weekly newsletter fuses research with popular culture and practical wisdom to help current and aspiring leaders consider ways to improve their leadership practice. The essays will range in topic from how to handle difficult conversations to how to build great working relationships with boards of directors.
The newsletter section, On DEI, will share considerations to support the work of those interested in leading through an equity lens. It will also house essays devoted to improving DEI(B) initiatives within organizations.
